Default any singles holidays that let you do your own thing?

I've found that being alone on holiday can be pretty depressing, so
I'm considering a holiday for single people - not to find a mate or
anything, just for the company.

The trouble is, I don't like holidays where you're shepherded around
everywhere.

My ideal holiday would be one where I did my own thing through the
day, then met up with the group for a meal and drinks in the evening.

Does anyone know of companies that specialise in this type of
holiday?

(I live in the UK, by the way).

Dave

Contiki has tours for under-35s that attract mostly singles. They
tend to visit a large number of places for just 1-2 days each, which
isn't my style, but a lot of people prefer that. They usually have
about a three-hour guided tour in each city you visit, and for the
rest of the time you are on your own - but if you wanted to skip a
guided tour it wouldn't be a problem. About half the time there's a
group dinner which is included in the tour, and there are a lot of
optional activities and optional dinners which have an extra charge
and are easy to skip if you want to.

I don't know if such tours exist. But what would be the point of
joining? You are just buying transportation and some vague social
gathering with people you have never met before and may or may not
even like. Why not just tour on your own and go to places in the
evening where people like you gathers, such as a local pub or places
near universities.

If you organise your own transportation and stay at youth hostels along the
way, you'll get exactly what you've described.
