Default AAA Batteries

How tough is it to find AAA batteries in Africa, particularly the less
developed countries?

No problem. The village shops in Mandinari sell them. And candles, in
case the torch breaks...

While most, if not all, shops stock regular batteries, not ALL will stock
the AAA type. In the less developed countries you might end up searching
for 'em when you're on off-beat tourist routes. Make sure you have at
least one set spare at all times.

Batteries are usually available at most villages, but AAA batteries
are usually NOT available. The other issue is that most batteries
available in rural areas are very cheap quality batteries and they
seldom have much charge in them. If you have battery-hungry equipment,
rather bring your own batteries, or use rechargeable ones with a
charger.

I use a Gamin Geco GPS that uses AAA batteries, and I always take
several packs of replacement Energizer or Duracel batteries, because
my experience is that you can't get AAA batteries when you need them.

You will find them easily in the very big cities. Good luck anywhere else,
except maybe in tourist areas where photography supplies may be found, and
even there don't count on it.
