Brits told not to smile
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3541444.stm
Travellers have been ordered not to look too happy in their passport photographs to avoid confusing facial recognition scanners. Toothy, open mouthed grins are being outlawed from the tiny 35mm by 45mm photographs because they will throw off scanners used at airports. Long fringes and head coverings, are also banned, under the new regulations along with dummies in babies' mouths. The new type of passports are being introduced in a bid to fight terrorism. A Home Office spokesman said: "When the mouth is open it can make it difficult for facial recognition technology to work effectively." |

Supposedly, the non-smiling is a requirement of some international agency/organisation. I can;t remember which one it was (not U.N.) |

There's are article on the register that claims that the accuracy of the recognisation system is CFU even without the 'teeth' problem. It seems that this is going to be a complete waste of money for all concerned. tim |

Brits have *awfully* crummy teeth, Sjoerd...and you Hollanders aren't too far behind in the "rotted teeth" category, either...it's no wonder this advisory has gone out. -- Best Greg |

Natural teeth without excessive cosmetic dentistry, you mean? But a serious question, is there any reason why you, as a regular, feel the need to post childish insults? Any good reason I shouldnt as a result, regard you as a total ****** in future? -- Mike Reid If god wanted us to be vegetarians he wouldn't have made animals out of meat.
