Default NEWSGROUP PERSONALITY

****** A song written especially for Kramer. *GRIN*

To be sung to "I Am The Very Model Of A Modern Major General" by
Gilbert & Sullivan

I am the very model of a Newsgroup personality.
I intersperse obscenity with tedious banality.
Addresses I have plenty of, both genuine and ghosted, too,
On all the countless newsgroups that my drivel is cross-posted to.
Your bandwidth I will fritter with my whining and my snivelling,
And you're the one who pays the bill, downloading all my drivelling.
My enemies are numerous, and no-one would be blaming you,
For cracking my head open after I've been rudely flaming you.

I hate to lose an argument (by now I should be used to it).
I wouldn't know a valid point if I was introduced to it.
My learning is extensive but consists of mindless trivia,
Designed to fan my ego, which is larger than Bolivia.
The comments that I vomit forth, disguised as jest and drollery,
Are really just an exercise in unremitting trollery.
I say I'm frank and forthright, but that's merely lies and vanity,
The gibberings of one who's at the limits of his sanity.

If only I could get a life, as many people tell me to;
If only Mom could find a circus freak-show she could sell me to;
If I go off to Zanzibar to paint the local scenery;
If I lose all my fingers in a mishap with machinery;
If I survive to twenty, which is somewhat problematical;
If what I post was more mature, or slightly more grammatical;
If I could learn to spell a bit, and maybe even punctuate;
Would I still be the loathsome and objectionable punk you hate?

But while I have this tiresome urge to prance around and show my
face,
It simply isn't safe for normal people here in cyberspace.
To stick me in Old Sparky and turn on the electricity,
Would be a fitting punishment for my egocentricity.
I always have the last word; so, with uttermost finality,
That's all from me, the model of a Newsgroup personality.

They go beyond annoying. They are positively destructive. I have lurked
here for a long time, posting occasionally, and I have watched the other
posters slowly dropping away. Soon these fools will have this newsgroup
all to themselves. I have no doubt that is their aim.

I remember another poster they used to harass. Can't recall the name but
he no longer posts and has not done so for quite a long time now. These
posters have never made a single useful post in all the time I have
lurked here and I suspect that isn't going to change any time soon.

Asking them to take their vendetta elsewhere is futile, they have no
other life!

Put Larbgai the childish troll into your killfile, as I did.

Then do tell us - why you don't post more? I am sure you have also
interesting facts/stories or whatever to bring? If I check what you
have posted, I can see that this year you had exactly 1 post in SCT -
and that was the one above.
If each of us would bring something, we could have an interesting
group - but that would mean to give the lurking up?

Looking forward to a few of your posts - thanks in advance!

I have posted very much over the years, even here on odd occasions, but
not with this account. I have recently retired and now have my own cable
broadband account and it is that which I am now using.

I am sure you have also interesting facts/stories or whatever to bring?

I have very many stories but, because of reasons of privacy (other
persons, not mine) most cannot be told and certainly not in a very
public forum such as this.

At one time I was flying into Asia almost on a weekly basis as part of
my work. Thailand was merely a way point for me as I was usually enroute
to other destinations. Also, my employer had a major office in bangkok
so Thailand was a base for much of my dealings in the region. As I think
back however, I daresay I rarely spent more than a single overnight stay
at any visit to Thailand. This is hardly a good basis upon which to make
"interesting" posts.

If I check what you have posted, I can see that this year you had
exactly 1 post in SCT - and that was the one above.

Quite correct and there will not be a lot more. I have seen how persons
are hounded out of this newsgroup for posting items that seem to put
other posters noses out of joint. Quite frankly, it is the single
largest deterrent to posting here. Given the number of valuable posters
who have eschewed SCT in recent times, I am obviously not alone in my
thoughts.

If each of us would bring something, we could have an interesting
group - but that would mean to give the lurking up?

Lurking is fine by me. I have learnt many facts here that 40 years of
traveling around Asia failed to teach me. Maybe I don't visit the right
places but I will admit that I used to "hit the ground running" every
time I landed in bangkok and never had time to do any sightseeing. My
work itinerary always left me little time for the pleasantries of
tourism in any form.

Anyway, you are a fine one to speak of bringing something to SCT. I have
seen you hound posters, in particular Tchiowa, with a passion. Why do
you do that? That makes you little better than the 3 currently
terrorising the forum. Whilst I don't agree with the politics of
Tchiowa, it is his right to air his opinions as it is my right (now at
least) to air mine. One must always remember though that these are
merely opinions and becoming abusive in response to such serves no
useful purpose.

Looking forward to a few of your posts - thanks in advance!

Don't hold your breath! I was never a regular poster and I see even less
reason these days to ramp up my posting/lurking ratio in SCT. Anyway,
some of the other forums to which I am now subscribed are of far more
interest and take up most of my time. I am far too old to be bothered
with all the sniping and carping that goes on in forums such as SCT.
As soon as I figure out how to get the blasted filters working in this
Thunderbird program, I may be blessed with more time to post. A simple
multiple key sequence was sufficient to initiate a filter on my previous
newsreader but this one is sufficiently different as to leave me totally
confused. I am 2,800 posts behind in one political forum alone and a
working filter could pare that number down considerably. I guess that
will be the motivation to get filtering worked out.

User-Agent: Thunderbird 2.0.0.5 (Windows/20070716)
(also previous versions)

Right click on the "From" sender's nym/address, bottom of the drop
menu, "Create Filter from message". That brings up "FILTER RULES".
Choose how you want it handled and click OK. The default is to killfile.

Also do a right click on a message in the list pane. You'll find two
nice items there, "Mark thread as read", and "Mark as read by date".

That should help out a little with shaving down those posts.
