Default Cambodia crackdown on pedos

PHNOM PENH,

Cambodia Cambodian officials are talking about ways to stop foreigners
from coming to their country to have sex with children.
Child rights advocates say Cambodia, one of the world's poorest
countries, is a haven for foreign pedophiles because of lax law
enforcement. More than 100 tourism and government officials are meeting
in Phnom Penh this week to discuss joint efforts to stop the child
exploitation.

The U-S-based Christian humanitarian group World Vision says all
sectors must cooperate to ensure that "people who harm children are
monitored, arrested and prosecuted."

Recent police crackdowns have landed many foreign pedophiles in jail or
returned them for prosecution in their home countries, including the
United States.

So again the phantom scourge of the 'Western Pedophile' will be the

and away the vast majority of pedophiles in Cambodia are either
themselves Cambodian or are Chinese, Taiwanese, or Japanese businessmen
or tourists. If the NGOs can identify the WHITE MAN as the problem
then they can more easily go to the WHITE COUNTRIES for funding for
their latest fleet of Landrovers (or some such), which is the ONLY
thing any of this is about.

.... i'm as sceptical as the next guy when i hear this sort of thing, but
have you got anything in the way of a reliable stat to back up your
claim that "Cambodian ... Chinese, Taiwanese, or Japanese businessmen
or tourists" make up the "vast majority" of pedophiles in Cambodia?
....or is this just another anecdotal derived from your standing in line
behind all these folk?

Indeed. And if you read the AFP wire story (

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...afp/cambodiaec
onomytourismchildsex_050228070410a )
there's also this quote:

"They will be looking at how the private sector, NGOs, embassies and
the government can work together better, particularly in providing
information, (and) arresting and prosecuting Westerners," World Vision
country director Talmage Payne told reporters.

Even if this were true, and there is no evidence presented here,
one less WHITE MAN predator is still one step forward.
What are you afraid of?

This type of child abuse is far worse than drug pushers and should be
dealt
with properly.

can you elaborate on this?? what about child soldiers?? children starving?

Personally I would have thought all about equal on the horror charts.

Sure, I can elaborate.

By publicly allowing foreigners to come in and rape your children is wrong.
If the country wants to stop it, it must come down hard on those who do it.
By implementing very tough laws will send a strong message to the public
globally that this is not going to be allowed anymore and if you do come to
the country looking for a child then you could sit in prison a long long
time, or even better and cheaper be dealt with accordingly.

Of course there are other situations children are in that are being dealt
with but the subject line on this thread was clear.

Wold Vision should stay out of this. President Bush likes "faith based
initiatives". What the Bush administration does is to take a field
where professional police work is needed and hand it over to Christian
fundamentalist amateurs. World Vision has backing from the State
Department. These people have their own agenda, mainly the spread of
Christianity at the cost of Cambodian Buddhism. And of course they are
anti-"sex tourism" even when no children are involved, despite this
issue being none of their business. Could the US send someone other
than these religious zealots please?

Because a flawed strategy is a flawed strategy. You need to attack the
greatest part of the problem, not just the easy targets, being the
white man in this case.

For complex problems, often all strategies have their flaws.
That does not mean one shouldn't act on them,
and I would challenge the statement

"this funding for their latest fleet of Landrovers (or some such), which is
the ONLY
thing any of this is about."

Too many pedophiles and sex tourists hide behind such statements.
