Default Seating on Qantas 747 UK --> OZ flights

Hi.

I'm going to OZ in February and I was wondering how seats are
allocated on Qantas.

I've only flown once before to the US on a 747. It was first to
check-in gets the pick of the seats.

Is that how Qantas does it too? I'd prefer an exit seat or an aisle
seat.

Thanks.

I believe you can ring up 24hrs before your flight to get a seat allocation.
I have often been at the airport checking in more than 3 hrs early - only to
be allocated some back row seat (on a 747 long haul - the back row is not
the place to be!) and I am a Qantas FF.

Yeah!! I'm an ANZ FF too!! - BUT - since I lost my 'silver' status through
lack of current mileage - I'm actually nothing.

Gotta' keep your miles up in this competitive world!!!

You don't say *how* you (will?) book (i.e. travel agent, internet,
etc.), but as others mentioned, (with Qantas/BA) you can *request*
certain seats (but as said, not exit seats) at booking time (at least
when booking via a travel agent), especially when booking early. We have
done that on three UK (Heathrow) to Oz (and return) flights and always
got what we had asked for (just in 'cattle' class and no FF (on the
first two)).
