Default Smoking on board Royal Caribbean ships

Seems like I've read complaints about smokers on ships at various
forums. Neither my mother or I smoke but my brother does. So he's
wanting to know what the restrictions are. Are there designated
smoking or non-smoking areas? What about in the dining areas? I can
begrudgingly handle Las Vegas casinos so surely a ship has to be way
better than that even if there are no non-smoking areas.

There are clearly defined smoking areas on all RCI ships.
All dining areas are strictly NO smoking, while only one or two bars on
board permit smoking.
The casino permits smoking - even at the tables.
Most staterooms are no smoking areas (although this is ignored in a lot of
cases, with seemingly no comeback).

On Splendour the outside pool area had smoking and the bars had areas for
smoking and areas for not smoking.
Didn't smoke at dinner and saw no else doing so. No ashtrays on the tables.
Also, smoking in cabin. You need to ask your room attendant for an ash tray
for the room.

From time to time, you can find a no-smoking-permitted casino table on

a ship.

That's very true Lee - But they are normally situated next to a smoking
table, which defeats the object.

Hi Everyone,

As a clarification to the above information. There is smoking allowed
in all cabins. Royal Caribbean does not have "no smoking cabins". I
believe there is a designated smoking area in all bars on the ship.
As Dave said, smoking is permitted in the casino.

Best regards,
Ray

Default Smoking on board Royal Caribbean ships

Hi:

Smoking in the pool area is limited to one side of the ship--port I
think. On Deck 5 or the only outside deck with access from the ship,
down lower, smoking is allowed on one side. There was also smoking
allowed in an area of the Colony Club and the sports lounge. One thing I
found handy was an empty Altoids tin to use as an ashtray. The only
ashtrays in the smoking areas, other than the Colony Club and the sports
lounge which did have them on the tables, are the large, floor ones, not
very plentiful, which people tended to gather around and they also
accumulated trash sometimes making them "hazardous" to use. With an
Altoids tin, you can relax in a deck chair away from the large ashtray
and away from non-smokers who would complain when they would have to
"walk through" smoke to get to a doorway to where they were going. I
don't blame them. I blame poor planning on the ship's part placing them
near doors rather than in a more remote place, but then passengers just
as easily could enter and exit areas from the non-smoking side of the
ship. Overall, I found the smokers very considerate in keeping to their
areas and really didn't see anyone abusing the no-smoking policy. I
also found the non-smokers considerate of the smokers by not making loud
comments, fanning themselvers, etc. As for the casino, a non-smoking
table next to a smoking table is worthless but they have to watch the
bottom line and don't want to run smokers off contributing to it. On
the one or two times I did light up at a table after seeing other
smokers lighting up at the table, I would ask a non-smoking "neighbor"
if it would bother them. Most of the time they either said it wouldn't
or bought out their own cigarettes. Once when someone hesitated in
answering, making it obvious they would prefer I didn't, I didn't. I
did not smoke in the cabin. I don't smoke inside my own house so why
should I do it in someone elses. When I have a balcony cabin, I always
"peek" around the sides to see if anyone is on their balcony. If they
are, I don't light up and if they come out while I am smoking, I put it
out. Common courtesy goes a long way and it is cheap and easy to do.

Richard (aka Tucker) and I are alot alike. I also don't smoke in the
cabin I use the balcony. Instead of an ashtray I use a 1 liter water
bottle half filled. The ashes from an ashtray tend to blow around on the
balcony and make a mess. When on deck I never smoke in a lounge chair.
I always get up and move to an unpopulated area at the railing. The
casino...well almost anywhere except the non smoking tables are fair
game to smoke. Your brother will have no problem finding a place to
light up. You will always see one or two people smoking where they
shouldn't be. Those are the folks that give smokers a bad reputation.
As for the clouds of smoke...well thats debatable. I guess it all
depends on your tolerance level. Some people complain and grip if there
is even a hint of smoke in the air. So I guess it depends on you. By no
means are you going to be choking on it. The only place it will be
heavy is right after dinner or a show when the casno is most crowded.

Ah, Rick. This report makes me wish I still smoked!
Maybe I'll start again.
