Internation Drivers License in Slovenia?!
Hi all!
I am an Australian, living in the UK and visiting Slovenia for a driving trip over the course of a week from Wednesday. My concern is, I don't have an Internation Drivers License! I have been reading some websites stating I need to have one? I can't really get one in time for my visit :-( I do hold a valid Australian Drivers license. Any thoughts / suggestions? Does anyone know if they would accept a faxed copy if I tried to arrange one in Australia? Thanks for your help and time. Matt |

I think that going strictly by the book, you would need one. http://ec.europa.eu/transport/home/d...faq/009_en.htm But in real life you can go without. I have been driving in many European countries and have never been asked about it. But then, I was never stopped by the police outside Slovenia. If you drive carefully and not too fast, it is very unlikely that you would be stopped by the police. Slovenia has entered in the Schengen treaty in January 2008, so you can drive from Italy, Austria or Hungary without being asked for documents at the border. You would need the passport only for going to Croatia. Does anyone know if they would accept a faxed copy if I tried to arrange one in Australia? I think not, since a policeman who tries to make trouble will want to have everything 100% original, while a normal policeman will not even ask for it. If you plan to rent a car in Slovenia, your best choice is to hire your car in advance and inform yourself with them about the documents they require. Hope you will enjoy your trip. A word of caution - Slovenians are very aggressive drivers, will never give way, rarely stop for pedestrian ... Driving culture is somewhere halfway between UK and Napoli. On the highways, there is a lot of truckers in transit from Eastern Europe and overtaking trucks can be dangerous. Dušan Peterc |

I don't think Slovenia would be any different to any other west European country in this regard, but you may have issues if involved in an accident. Insurance companies just love to mess you around for any reason whatsoever. -- --- DFM - http://www.deepfriedmars.com --- -- |
