Default International Drivers Licence in South Africa

Hello,

I am going to stay in Republic of South Africa for 3 months this
summer-autumn.
Could anyone suggest whether it is possible to make an international drivers
licence over there (at the police station or somewhere else)?
If yes, how much deos it cost?

Thanks for the advices,
Augustas, Lithuania

Augustas,

I think you need to get the international drivers license in Lithuania and
not South Africa. In South Africa nobody will be able to translate your
drivers license because it's probably written in .... hmm what language do
you speak in Lithuania, Russian? What I'd do if I were you is contact the
Lithuanian police and ask them how to get an international drivers license
in Lithuania.

You can get an international drivers licence at any Automobile
Association of South Africa branch e.g. in Johannesburg or Cape Town.

Unfortunately I don't know what it costs (last time I spoke to them
was more than a year ago and my memory's a bit hazy!) but I assume it
won't be budget-breaking.

Regarding Arnoud's reply, he may have a point there! Here are links to
South African embassies and Representatives abroad. Take a look there
and contact the nearest SA embassy to you and make sure from them.

You must get an international drivers licence issued in the country that
issued your current valid licence ie- licence tets done in france,
french authorites ,French AA must isue with an international drivers
licence.

don't risk driving in SA on your foreign licence without an
international licence together. as it is a serious offence there to not
have it on your person for inspections ect. The last thing you want is a
dumb speed cop giving you hassels and arguing with you.
