Australia to Thailand - currency questions
I will be travelling from Australia to Thailand soon.
I am thinking about the best way to handle the currency conversion of Australian dollars to Thailand's Baht. How can I get the best exchange rate? Should I use an Australian bank to convert the currency? Should I just use ATMs in Thailand? Any other general advice from anyone who has experience in this area would be much appreciated Thank You |

How can I get the best exchange rate? Should I use an Australian bank to convert the currency? Should I just use ATMs in Thailand? ATM's are very convenient. none of them charge you a service charge. most folks feel that they give the best exchange rate. plus, there are some at the airport - so you'll have Thai currency for your taxi ride into town. select an amount so that you have at least one 500 baht note. as to exchange rates - it is up to your home bank. some charge conversion fees and some hit you with service charges. but, all in all, it is safer and better not to carry cash around. a little off the subject: go to the **public taxi** stand (down one floor). they will give you a form with the driver's name and cab number on it in case you run into any problems. make sure the driver uses the meter. do not accept a flat rate. do not pay the driver until your luggage is out of the taxi's trunk. if the driver pretends not to have change for 500 baht invite him come into the hotel with you and your luggage to get proper change from the front desk. do not tip him if he pulls this well-known trick. |
