"DevilsPGD"
What exactly is so special about air travel that requires any more
security than a bus?

Actually, in the last couple of years I have used buses where
there WERE security checks. I guess the increases in cartel
activity prompted this.

Sure, and what sort of security checks were there? $56 billion dollars
worth, or a patdown?

Adequate, I guess.

TSA announced tonight that during the last year, they detected and
confiscated
over 125,000 illegal articles, including but not limited to guns and knives.

It's a start.

Based on what I've seen at checkpoints, I'll wager that at least 124,000 of
them were completely harmless bottles of water and soda.

That's $64,800/item. Think it's a good expenditure?

It's a start.

Oh, plus lets not forget the hundreds of additional traffic fatalities,
each year, as people drive to avoid the TSA?

http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes...port-security/

But yeah, it's... A start.

How many people did they arrest?

Because for every so-called illegal item confiscated, there must
theoretically be a terrorist with a terrorist motive behind each
article.

If they didn't arrest anyone, then all the confiscations served no
purpose - no reason.

What does a new 777 cost? Better still, what do you value your life?
Are you worth $64,800?

We're not talking about $64,800/life, we're talking $64,800 per item of
questionable danger. Since you brought it up, lets talk about saving
lives shall well? Assuming an average of one 9/11 scale event per year,
we're costing lives and not saving them with the TSA:
http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes...port-security/

(No, I'm not counting the people in the buildings or anywhere else since
those would have been saved by securing the cockpit doors and allowing
the planes to land safely immediately after the hijacking attempt
starts)

A better question is why we single out air travel for security while
allowing these dangerous items in other venues? Why aren't we searching
people for water bottles before allowing them into malls?
