You sir are an absolute twit. Hardly restricted to blue collar, and most
definitely not to the uneducated as you so crudely put it. While i am no
longer a smoker, and do not particularly like the smell of smoke, it is
still a legal product in both the US and Canada, as well as numerous other
countries. As such I defend the right of people who are of legal age to
partake of the product. I know that some person will no doubt say that no
one has the right to smoke but I will still disagree.

No. People who say such things are usually uneducated and narrow in
their thinking because, unfortunately, smoking is not restricted to
class or education. If you were right, the premature deaths of tobacco
users would raise the average, and that's not happening.

Do you drink? Do you drive faster than the speed limit? Do you do
anything whatsoever that might imperil others? Is there any aspect of
your life that absorbs more tax dollars than your proportional
contribution? I don't smoke and detest the smell of it, but I would not
prohibit smoking any sooner than I would prohibit drinking.

I would gladly support legislation that prevents (1) smokers from making
me smoke their cigarettes and (2) the use of my tax dollars to pay for
their medical care.

Also, it would really be great if we could prohibit shallow thinking on
the internet...

Agreed. But, your point that not smoking is for the good of all also
proves nothing. Merely an opinion, a claim--NOT hard evidence.

Same situation with drinking. I have a friend who likes his booze, and
he has the damaged liver to show for it. Yet, I continually see stories
of centenarians who feel (claim) that their longevity is due to the fact
that they have a belt of whiskey each day. Lots of doctors would argue
that point. The fact is that what they say is an opinion, a claim,
without empirical evidence to support it.

I have no worry about lung cancer. No more than I worry about AIDS due

Why is it necessary to blame anyone? According to the "experts", cancer
is not totally environmental: some portion of it is hereditary.

Perhaps, in our litigious society, one might be looking for someone to
sue. Should I blame my parents, grandparents, et al?
