Default Getting a VISA for Kenya..

Hi....I am in the Uk and planning on visiting Kenya for a 2 week safari at
the end of september.

I need a VISA for kenya for a single entry...whats the best way to do it?

I understand that the Kenyan High Comission needs 3 working days for a
personal application in london and a 5 day application for a postal
application, but I will be needing my passport for european travel between
now and a week before I am due to fly to kenya

How painless ( or as I suspect, painful) is it to get a Kenyan Visa on
arrival in Nairobi??

London is a 300 mile round trip that i need to make twice to get a visa
personally.

all help appreciated!!!

I won`t be rude and say perhaps you should have planned it sooner!
However, it seems to me you have no alternative but to get your visa in
Nairobi, it can be done but make sure you have the correct fee ready as
you won`t get change. We had to do the same in Zanzibar once and it was
OK.

I've always got mine from the Embassy in advance, but it is no
problem, and apparently sometimes only a slight delay - though I've
always seen long queues in July - to get the visa at the airport.

It`s up to you but I wouldn`t risk it, there really is no problem with
getting it at Jomo Kenyatta ( Nairobi airport)

I've traveled with people who had no choice but to get their visa at
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. They were in the same position as
you. When we landed they, went to the visa line while I went to the
immigration officer line. They handed over their passport and $50 and
within two minutes they had their visa and were through. I got through
10 minutes later.
So I'd say it's no big deal to get a visa at the airport, especially
if you have a passport from the US, Canada or Western Europe.

I'm with Pat - ten days is too tight - are the English postal strikes
over now? - and if you don't get your passport back on time, you're
not going anywhere.

Liz,
the postal strikes are over but there can be a delay from the Kenya
High Commission, if you read from the Commission site it states it
takes about a week from receipt of application. Safer to pay $50 dollars
on landing in Nairobi.

It causes a little delay, but I have always bought my visa in
Nairobi, never got one beforehand.

There are a few tricks to accelerate the visa procedure.

1. Get the form beforehand and have it filled before you land in
Nairobi. The last two years the visa forms were always
distributed in the plane, but if not, you can download it from
http://michna.com/download/kenya_visa_application.png (picked
out of my web site http://michna.com/kenya.htm ) and print it.

2. Try to get out of the plane as early and quickly as possible.
Open your seat belt two seconds before the fasten-seat-belt sign
is switched off. (:-)

3. When the line at the visa counter is long, turn left into the
corridor. At the next opportunity, after some 40 m, turn right
for another visa counter. Sometimes an official waves you over
there anyway, but you can try on your own.

Why the rush? Because you don't want your luggage to circle on
the belt any longer than necessary.
