There appear to be ferries from Italy and Greece.

Finding the times for them could be a challenge.

I managed to find this link which has no times

and this one which no longer runs (but which will
give you an idea how long it takes)

Swimming.

By bus or car, through Turkey, Syria and Jordan or on the other way:
Spain, Morroco, Algeria, Tunisia, Lybia.

Both ways might require many visas.

You could take a ferry from Greece to Cyprus. From Cyprus there are
ferries and mini-cruises to Egypt.

The Moroccan-Algerian border was closed for many years. Has it
reopened? Even if it has, any road trip through the Sahara should not
be taken lightly, and there are security issues in much of Algeria.

Without a car, you can take buses or trains to Istanbul, buses through
Syria and Jordan, and then a ferry from Aqaba in Jordan to Egypt.

If he wants to drive, he may need certain documents to get the car in
and out of different countries:
