Will start processing soon the HK photos and will create a photo gallery inside the China section. Would anybody object to this ? Is HK China ? The alternative would be to place HK as a separate country on the same level as China, Thailand, Malaysia etc. From a cultural point of view, HK is not part of China: different language, different currency, totally different laws, different concept of human rights, they must have a visa and a passport to go to China, and so on. So, for a site about photography, I should consider the possibity to keep them separate. Actually, all the sites I know about picture galleries, netfriends and so on, they keep China, Taiwan and Hong Kong as separate countries. From a merely gepolitic point of view, HK is actually part of China. -- Stefano aka Senbee Norimaki ICQ# 4243376 |

Now Hong Kong is a nobody, it's neither truly part of China nor a
British colony. Being a S.A.R. suck. Nobody that a lot of Hong Kong citizens become confuse of who they're. But another way to view Hong Kong is that... it's part of South East Asia. So... It would probably put in the same region as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Phillipines, and so on. As for large part of Hong Kong citizens go to Hong Kong to escape China. In your mind only. But if it's true, then it would be kinda saying that Hong Kong citizens are a bunch people of who are nothing more but throw aways from other countries? A country or area being developed by a bunch of criminals? Gee... That's not a nice way to view something. |

That is not true. There is no need for a visa or a passport. A HK residence card and a "return to home village" card is sufficient. Yup, you're right. Anyway, it's not exactly like to live in the same country, isn't it? I mean: I live in Italy, and if I want to go to Tuscany from Sicily, I don't need any residence card or "return to village" card, and I don't have to change any currency, even if Sicily is a Special Administrative Region of Italy. Actually the real point is the huge difference of law: HK and China have totally different institutions, concepts of human rights, relashonships between citizens and Government, freedom of press and so on. I don't intend to flame about which is better, I just say they're really different. -- Stefano aka Senbee Norimaki ICQ# 4243376 |

wrote in message oups.com... As for large part of Hong Kong citizens go to Hong Kong to escape China. In your mind only. Huh? Are you saying that the huge wave of refugees flooding HK in the early fifties were there not to escape the communists? Learn a little history, my friend. But if it's true, then it would be kinda saying that Hong Kong citizens are a bunch people of who are nothing more but throw aways from other countries? Not thrown aways. Refugees. A country or area being developed by a bunch of criminals? Where do you see criminals? They escaped communist China. Is that criminal? Gee... That's not a nice way to view something. To quote you, "only in your mind". |

From a cultural point of view, HK is not part of China: different
language, different currency, totally different laws, different concept of human rights, they must have a visa and a passport to go to China, and so on. So, for a site about photography, I should consider the possibity to keep them separate. Actually, all the sites I know about picture galleries, netfriends and so on, they keep China, Taiwan and Hong Kong as separate countries. u probably do not understand the meaning of Chinese to make these senseless comment. for thousands of years, it is the chinese language that binds the chinese together as a single civilisation, single empire, single dynasty, single country, and nothing else. cantonese, mandrian, hokkien, sichuannese, hakka, Taiwanese... all uses the same form of chinese writtings abeit different spoken dialect, as oppose to various form of written language in europe, which explain why europen nations remain separated while China unified. english might not make any sense to spanish both written or spoken, but between cantonese and mandrain they share the same written characters. a cantonese authur is understood by all chinese readers without any need for translation...could a german authur enjoy the same freedom of communication with the french or english or spanish?? concept of western law, human rights, market econ, and weath have taken 100yrs to develop in HK, or 50yrs in Taiwan... how long should the Mainland China take to be on par with both HK or Taiwan, considering a 1.3billion population, majority still heavily dependent on traditional rural agriculture, and many still under extreme poverty..? politically, it may be PRC, ROC, SAR, which explains the need for internal visa or permit...but culturally, it is a common language, single entity. No where on earth you see 1.3 billion people communicating using the same indigenious language for so many thousand years, NOT even in India in the yr 2020. therefore, if the photo gallery is meant to be political, u probably want to separate it... otherwise, it make sense to group them together as one China. ------------------ a photographic journey through asia - www.geocities.com/boochap "Senbee Norimaki" wrote in message ...
