Bancock to Bali
Alfred Molon wrote :
It's actually not just me having this opinion. Of course you are not the only person with this opinion. Many tourists go to India, and some of them came back disappointed or stressed. While in Goa (on Colva beach) most of the tourists there who had gone for half a day to Panaji (a nearby town) came back totally tired and stressed. We also met some people who were travelling around the world. They said they had been in many countries, and India was definitely the toughest and most stressing to travel around. The beach in Goa is very peaceful and relaxing - but only the beach. As I said to you I am not stressed at all while in India, and, of course, I met many people with the same feeling. If they went to Panaji and they came back stressed, i cannot figure which type of people they were, since this town is a small town of about 100.000 inhabitants, with churches, small houses, trees, portuguese spirit and so on. Maybe they were not used to go around alone in a foreign country. This discussion could last forever. Anyway, as I said to you, it also a question of personal relaxed feeling, I think I had it and you did not. bye -- federicoP ------------------- per scrivermi elimina la china |

In fact, Goa is the less "indian" part of India and could be disappointing for this, but, as per the original request of jsher (beach, price, good food and sufficient relax to write a book) , I think it could be almost perfect. -- federicoP ------------------- per scrivermi elimina la china |

Bancock to Bali
I am still not sure what my exact plans are.
I am definitely going to Thailand and Bali/Lombak. As well as traveling some around the area (vietnam, cambodia, malaysia etc.) I would like to get to Australia, and New Zealand. (I have been to both countries 5 years ago). Ideally I would like to get to Fiji and the Cook Islands if I can get a cheap stopover. I have friends I would like to visit in Hong Kong. I would like to get to China (Shanghei especially). I would like to get to india and nepal. I would like to get to south africa, mauritius, tanzania and egypt. I would like to get to turkey and around the black sea and into russia. It would be nice to get to get to chech and poland (I was in prague 15 years ago). I would like to get to spain and portugal (I also visited parts of spain 15 years ago). You should look into the One World and Star Alliance RTW tickets. They usually don't pay off, but they might make sense in your case, since you want so many flights within 9 months and you want to include international flights in Africa and Oz/NZ/Pacific which would be very expensive to buy independently (domestic flights can be cheap in most of those countries). Do keep in mind that it can be cheaper to fly to London or Bangkok first and then buy your RTW ticket there than to buy it in the US - this is especially true right now with the weak dollar. Just a brief note on destinations - I'd give Mauritius a miss if you're going to Zanzibar, and forget Malaysia unless you're passing through it anyway and instead add Laos or spend more time in Vietnam. You'll want to plan around the weather also - you don't want to be in India or Southeast Asia during the hot season (generally spring) or the rainy season (generally summer). Most parts of India and Southeast Asia are best in the late fall or the winter. If you notice my theme, these are mostly cheaper destinations-e.g. A long visit to france isn't in my budget... I am actually planning on spending part of my time writing a book, so would like to be at nice beach like locations that are much cheaper than Los Angeles (where I currently live). The Thai island beaches. Beautiful, dirt-cheap and very relaxing. p,s. I saw a fare for LA-BKK-Dehli-Paris-New York for $1100 US plus fees (so probably $1400 US) and thought that was a good deal.... Yes, but adding Africa and Oz/NZ/Pacific will probably more than double that figure. |

fly direct to bali from bankok about £125 return 4hours flight

Are they cheaper if you buy them in Bancock? How much cheaper? Is there a cheaper way to get to bali? .... p.s. I am not leaving for another year, just doing research now... If you have time, maybe Phuket Air (low cost company) will resume his flights to Bali. Be aware that Phuket Air had both financial and safety problems ! At present it appears that there are no low-cost company that flights directly from Bangkok to Denpasar, so I think the best advice is the suggestion that gave to you Jan. -- federicoP ------------------- per scrivermi elimina la china |

As I said in a previuos message, India is a place to love or to hate. I love it and you hate it :-)) -- federicoP ------------------- per scrivermi elimina la china |

You find the same sort of tourists in China, btw. Well, I feel very comfortable travelling across China. But then in China people don't bother you on the streets trying to sell you something. Also, the infrastructure in China is some orders of magnitude better than in India. -- Alfred Molon http://www.molon.de - Photos of Asia, Africa and Europe |
