Default 1-yr old wiht own seat but no baby seat

OK. Flying transatlantic in a few weeks with our young son.

We've got him his own seat (It'd be a nightnmare without !) but don't
plan to use a car seat as well.

I'm assuming hes, therefore, going to have to sit on our lap and be
held for takeoff/landing/seatbelt on times?

But is it then ok for him to sit/lie on his reserved seat at other
times ?

Once at your destination, how will you travel safely without a carseat.

There are many ways to travel that don't involve cars!

You might want to reconsider that decision not to have a booster/child seat for
your son.

Have you ever been in an accident where you are thrown against your belt? Now
consider it will be YOUR weight flying forward against your child's body and
the seat belt in the event of turbulance or a difficult landing.

Should be fine for him to sit/lie in his reserved seat at other times, but
please consider what might happen to a child on your lap if the seatbelt were
REALLY needed.
