Default ? -booking with TA or Cruise line Direct

We have been on 16 cruises and know what we want as far as stateroom, etc. is
concerned. We were wondering about bypassing the TA this time and booking
directly with the cruise line. The one we are interested in is HAL. We would
probably book our own flights also. What is the advantage or disadvantage of
booking a cruise direct with the cruise line? TIA, M.B.

I don't see any advantage in booking with the cruiseline, which is why I
haven't done it!

A TA will discount the cruiseline price and some will assist you in
numerous ways.

Perhaps someone who's booked directly with a cruiseline can shed some
light on why they did that.

Without rehashing what has already been posted hundreds of times on this
newsgroup, let me just say that if you're doing a HAL cruise, I would
definitely recommend a TA. In my limited experience, HAL is the most
difficult of all cruise lines to deal with when things go wrong. Having
a TA go to bat for you, can only help matters.

Been on HAL several times, had no problem booking directly with them, but
do not like their policy of not including port taxes in their rates.

Used to get a gift from travel agent, but the last few,not even a thank
you,so now we use the cruise lines themselves,or BUY CRUISES.
