Chitzen Itza Excursion
A few years ago, I remember reading a review of the shore excursion to
Chitzen Itza. In it, the review was talking about the ships excursion. It included a helicopter ride (instead of a 3 hour bus ride) But in searching all the cruise lines, I am only able to find bus trips. Thats 3 hours each way from Cozumel. There's a good one from Progreso on the Elation, but I'm not 100% sure it's what I want to do as they don't offer the Tikal excursion from Belize City (see next post) Anyway (again, I get so sidetracked lol) What I wanna know is if anyone has used a copter to get to Chitzen Itza. If so, how reliable was it? Since it's not through any cruise lines, I am hesitant for my first cruise because i do not wanna be left behind lol. Really from any of the Yucatan ports. Costa Maya, Progreso, Cancun, or Cozumel. Thanx -- LES! To send me an email, please remove Your Hat YourHatDaddie @ bonbon.net |

If you must go to CI, do the ships tour. You are right that you don't want to get left behind. But I heartily recommend NOT going to Chichen Itza from Cozumel/Costa Maya (It maybe better from Progresso). It's a long bus trip for a visit that is not nearly long enough. We went a couple of times on land vacations, and spent 10-12 hours at the site and did not see everything. (Then went back for the evening Light show.) I cannot imagine how the folks who come on the cruise ship busses get a real chance to enjoy this site fully. If you have never been to Tulum it is lovely and very doable in the time you have from a ship's excursion. Not nearly as impressive as CI but in its own way unique. I recommend that or an alternate. Come back to the Yucatan some time on a land vacation. Julie -- Julie ********** Check out my Travel Pages (non-commercial) at http://www.dragonsholm.org/travel.htm |

Chitzen Itza Excursion
I was on that plane a few months before it crashed. That was the way to go.
As long as you survived the trip! Turns out that Czech built plane was NOTORIOUS for crashing due to mechanical failure. Some sort of design flaw. It was like aviation Russian Roulette! Whew! Unfortunately, there are no ship's excursions except by bus. If there is another way to get there, it's with an outside source. If you have never been there before and are into that sort of thing, I highly recommend it. Go and climb the pyramid before they WISELY make it off limits for tourists. I would ride the bus if I hadn't been there and it was the only way to go. MrTractor------stared into the deep dark abyss and lived to tell the story!!!!........ "Charles" wrote in message d... Julie. I agree about a land trip. Just spent 8 days in Merida and was so
impressed. What a wonderful city! |

Chitzen Itza Excursion
I've been there on a Cancun vacation & fully agree with Juliana's opinion's,
although I think 10-12 hours for me is a little much. It's much to long a ride to make it practical from a cruise ship to see anything. On our vacation to Cancun we got two tickets for almost nothing for listening to a time share talk one early morning. "Juliana L Holm" wrote in message ... Ali's Daddie wrote: -- LES! I agree. Chichen Itza is better left for a land-based vacation from Merida, Cancun or even Cozumel. It still means an all-day trip and a long bus ride, but you get a very early start, and getting back to your hotel to crash at the end of this long day is better than knowing you must return to your ship for dinner and a full evening. I like Valladolid to do Chichen Itza. If you can take a day or two away from a Cancun or Cozumel vacation, and spend a night in this lovely colonial town, preferably at the big hotel right on the square, visit the Cenote in town and the cathedral, then spend a day at Chichen Itza, only 20 minutes away via the Autopista, then visit Cenote Dznip on the way back. It can be a lovely couple of days, and much more Mexican than either Cancun or Cozumel, or even Tulum anymore.
