I will be alone - any concerns walking that route by myself? (I'm
a woman in my 40s).

No problem to walk around Berlin in daytime. Even at night most of the
parts are perfectly safe. The parts that could be a bit dangerous
sometimes
are some of the run-down suburbs outside the city-center, where you
wouldn't go anyway.
Unter den Linden, the Brandenburg Gate oder the Reichstag is right
in the
center where there are lots and lots of tourists. Perfectly safe.

Enjoy your stay, Berlin is a great city!

Regrads,

Frank

Good to hear! Thanks!

:]

btw if the weather is too bad for the zoo, you just have to see the
museums.

Any suggestions of good museums in the area of the Berlin Hilton? I
know the tour I'll be on will visit the Checkpoint Charlie Museum.

Thx!

:]

You are within walking distance from the finest museums in the world and
the whole area around your hotel is actually a huge fascinating museum
ranging from Imperial times to national socialist, WW2, Berlin wall and
present times. The Museum Island with, for example, the Pergamon Museum
is only a few minutes stroll away. If you are interested in Checkpoint
Charlie Museum make sure that you also see the DDR Museum.

In order to avoid an overdose of museums take a boat ride on the rivers
and canals around you. You can take a fancy and costly theater, dinner
or champagne cruise or just hop on a cheap boat which operate nearly
like a bus or tram to travel a short distance.

You should be able to rent an easy-to-use hand-held GPS navigator from
the hotel. That gadget with one of the many free maps and leaflets make
it easy to find your way around.

Excellent! Thanks. More than enough to keep me occupied on my free day!
