Default Bank cards in the USA

OK let me rephrase. OP has a bankcard with no name on it?

That is correct (based on the company he banks with, I draw that
conclusion). This is very common in Canada... it's easier to find a
bank that issues generic cards than to find one who will personalize
and send you your very own card.

I just returned frio las vegas and while in one of the Casinos I tried

machine directed me to the Casino Cage . They said unless the card had

cannot use it for money in my account

You have a bank card not in your name?

Yeah. BMO has some fetish with handing out blank bank cards (number
only, no name)

The upside is that if you lose your card, they replace it on the spot.
The downside is that it gets rejected sometimes.

No I do not have a bank card in another name . Our bank cards just
have a number on the front but our signature on the back . The number
on the front is linked to our checking account and savings account and
we use a pin we have set up to withdraw the money when we insert the
cardt into the ATM machine

Just out of curiosity, did you try using your card at an ATM of a real
bank in Las Vegas? By that I mean an ATM in, or actually operated by,
a major bank like Citi, Chase, Bank of America, rather than one of the
high profit ATM's commonly found in casinos?

No I did not . We were on the strip and come to think of it I didn't
even see a real bank . I wonder if it may have worked there. Next trip
to the US I will try it

You have two issues here. First, the reason why a casino's human cashier
window wouldn't issue you money when you presented a card without your
name on it is because he or she probably had no way to verify that you
are authorized to use that card. Why doesn't your ATM card have your
name on it?

As for the problem of the card not being accepted at the casino's ATMs,
I suggest you contact the card's issuer to discuss the problem.

That's why god invented PIN numbers.

Why doesn't your ATM card have your name on it?

Because it's not needed. This is semi-standard practice with some banks
in Canada, a practice of which I am not fond (although I do understand)

Since the card's use is authenticated by PIN, and not by the name on the
card, the bank's position is that the name isn't required.

Indeed -- Better yet, call the number on the ATM or the back of your
card while you're standing in front of the machine.
