Hong Kong and south China, 2 weeks - what to see ?
Hello,
I am going with my wife to Hong Kong next week. We are going to stay there for a two weeks. About 6 days in Hong Kong and rest in South China ( I think Guangdong, Hainan, Guanxi). Is this a good idea to go to China for 7-8 days ? What to see there ? Can we see anything in such a short time ? Or maybe stay whole 2 weeks in Hong Kong ? I would appreciate any suggestions Best regards, Hubert |

But I think it's a dirty place infested with prostitutes. When you are in HK check out some travel agents and see what kind of tours they offer and see what interests you. I would appreciate any suggestions Best regards, Hubert |

There are also a couple of national parks you may want to visit. Again check out some travel agents when you are in HK. Best regards, Hubert |

In China you will get more chinese stuff, whether you like it or not. Suffice to say, after around two weeks in China, Hong Kong doesn't look so Chinese at all (the same goes for Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Jakarta, which Chinese are the majority in these cities, eventhough they don't consider themself as Chinese). Bst Regards Tom |

Guiling-Yangsuo is now very famous. It used to be the paradise for a few
people. But pple began to crowded that place now. No matter where you go, you can see a lot of pple. There are still many places in China that can provide similar scenery.... I heard that a new Macdonald would be opened in Yangsuo.........Too bad.. That place is too commercial now. |

I wouldn't worry about spending too much time in Hong Kong- a few days to see the best of it, but like someone said before, it is a regular big city with rude people in it. I'd head straight to the train station and get on a train to Guangzhou and from there catch a night train to Guilin. When you get to Guilin take a mini bus to Yangshuo which is a really cool backpackers mecca where you can hire bikes, go into the hills hiking, climbing, good food, good weed and fantastic scenery. After that take a bus to the Dragon's Back rice fields where you will see amazing scenery and meet very nice people and stay basically in their homes. It is very cheap and very easy. You could also fly to Guilin from Shenzhen (or vice versa) which is more than 1/2 the price of flying from Hong Kong. Thanks for a info. Guilin and Yangshuo are the places I wanted to visit. I am considering Yunnan teritories like Kunming, Lijiang too but I am afraid 7 days it is not enough to visit all those places. On the map it looks ok, but China it's a huge country. Best regards, Hubert |
