Default Best place to buy traveller's cheques in Australia?

Hi all,

Not sure this is the most appropriate newsgroup as it seems to mainly be
about people visiting Australia / NS, but:

Does anyone have any information about which banks, etc, tend to offer the
cheapest purchase of traveller's cheques in Australia (converting AUD cash
to USD Amex cheques)?

And before anyone tells me to use my ATM card, I'm spending more than half
of my trip in Laos which has very poor / no ATM access with international
cards :-)

Cheers,
Matt

Australia Post, larger Post Offices (Amex cheques, commission free) or
Travellex (also commission free). Both sell currency too - also commission
free. Rates are close, but not identical for both companies.

http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/zw-cgi/view/Advice/Laos

"There are very few ATM machines that accept foreign debit cards in Laos
...."

Latest Laos Lonely Planet warns about it.

http://www.lonelyplanet.com/letters/sea/lao_pc.htm
"Just to let you know and also to help other travelers going through SEA,
especially Laos. They have international ATM machines now in Vientane." -
but I'm not in Vientiane for long, and at the end.

The list goes on...

Thanks for the tip.

Both being commission free is good, but are their sell rates competitive?
It's the variable sell rates that makes finding cheap cheques so damn
hard...
