i make this directory available for use when you are offline looking
for a way to go online for free. In addition to making this available
to users, I am lobbying food, hotel and other locations to provide
free service. Naturally the more people subscribing the more clout I
have with this effort.

www.notquitegeeks.com and check the front page for the "FreeFi"
directory.

Free WiFi is great, but remember some unscrupulous WiFi providers set
them up just to capture personal data from unsuspecting users. For
your own safety, never use your credit card over an unsecured WiFi

If the web site uses SSL (HTTPS) it is safe to use CC numbers as SSL is meant
to operate securely in cases of "man in the middle".

You would not want to use simple POP3 as that sends clear text passwords or
straight HTTP as that is clear text as well.

I use VPN to connect to a machine at the office (SSL) and then go thru that to
get to clear text sites. The traffic from the office to the target site is
clear text, but the target from the office to the PC over the open-wifi is SSL
and thus safe from the "man in the middle".

P.S. "Safe" is a relative term - if one want to use lots of CPU and has lots
of time the SSL traffic can eventually be decrypted.

Should you use the mailblocks package and expect a response from me,
you should preauthorize the dissensoftware.com domain.

I very rarely bother responding to challenge/response systems,
especially those from irresponsible companies.
