I think that you'll find that this route map is only a schematic.

I wondered about that, but since it shows the routes as arcs rather
than straight lines, I thought it /could/ be accurate.

Don't follow you - Liverpool-Berlin is direct.

If you look at an aeronautical chart, you'll find the planes don't fly
the shortest route they fly from node to node.
