Default Smoking on Cruises

Bottom line: Smokers are scum and they trade the inconvenience of their
withdrawal for my life. Period.

Oh my gosh, lighten up, will ya girlfriend?

People who smoke are usually a lot of fun, actually. And, they're nice
people, generally speaking, and not out to get you.

They're addicted and very uncomfortable if they are trapped somewhere
without a smoke. It's not like they can go somewhere for a smoke when
on a cruiseship.

Default Smoking on Cruises

I just read an article about 100% non-smoking hotels. They quoted a
number of smokers who feel quite free to smoke and then lie about it
to avoid the fine.

One argument has been that those who own businesses should be allowed
whatever smoking policies they wish. And yet smokers will still defy
the rules when smoking isn't allowed. We are told to just go and
patronize places that don't allow smoking. So why don't smokers do the
same thing?

Hotel guests are charged for damages, including smoke smell, when it's
a non-smoking room or non-smoking hotel and they choose to smoke.

Smokers are not evil and disobey rules like you say. Some may, but I
suppose there are nonsmokers who disobey other rules, just as well.

Well, considering that most responsible smokers would get a balcony cabin so
they could smoke in an area designated for smoking , you shouldn't be all
too suprised if a neighbor smokes. If the smoke bothers you so much , you
can always choose to not go out on the balcony if someone is smoking , or
just get a cabin without a balcony in the first place . I think that if you
choose to get a cabin thats in an area designated for smoking , than you
should be willing to put up with it .

The air on a private balcony is not public, it's private, and paid for
in higher rates than those rooms without balconies.

In high density living, people share their "bubbles," and noise,
smoke, light, etc., can overlap.

People can go to the bar for music, and a smoking room or area to
smoke.

No, that is wrong and times are changing.

I live in California and many areas where people are smoke-free.

I just noticed a sign at DeAnza college that said "this campus is now
smoke-free" and smoking anywhere on campus isn't allowed.

Restaurants, 20 feet from any entrance of buildings, theme parks,
beaches, bars, busses, airports, etc., should all be smoke-free.
Cruise ships need to figure out a way to accommodate a smoker because
they are addicted and they can't jump ship to have a cigarette,
though. It's tight quarters with sensitive ventilation on cruise
ships, so I don't know how they can have a smoking area. Maybe the aft
(is that the rear of the ship) where the smoke can go in the wake and
only when at sea, or something?

People will pay anything for their smoking addictions. Have you seen
the price of cigarettes lately? I can't imagine how people can afford
it anymore.

But, they do.

Smoke-free casinos are popular in California.

The Siena in Reno is one.

Many Indian casinos are smoke-free, except for a closed-in glass room,
in California, too.

Maybe cruise ships can have smoking rooms like airports do, or
something.

Oh Clint, you're a senior, so people are being nice. You don't
understand the times of today, and those are times where smoke-free
environments are embraced.

I bet you get a hug if you didn't light up.

SNIP

I'm also a "senior" and I can assure you that if
you are next to me with your lit cigar in a "no
smoking" area of the ship, you would know that I
"cared."
Enough to help you "drop" your cigar.
Some ships have a nice cigar lounge for you to
enjoy, with plenty of fresh air.
Honestly, you can smoke to your heart's content,
Clint, just don't exhale.
Cheers,
John in LALALand (On the Left Coast)
