Best time of year for sunny Milford/Doubtful Sounds?
Can someone tell me what time of year these areas are more likely to
be sunny? I understand they are usually overcast. Thanks much! Allison |

If you want to see what the Sounds are all about, you're better off visiting while it's pouring rain so that you can see what happens. -- Tony Bailey Mercury Travel Books |

Sunniest time is June/July (winter) when it is crisp and clear and cool. http://www.travellink.co.nz/media/page.asp?UID=57 http://www.westcoast.org.nz/informat...waclimate.html (And, by the way, getting into avalanche season on the Milford road http://www.milfordroad.co.nz/hazard.htm). Or try late February -- my preference. I understand they are usually overcast. They do get a lot of _inches_ of rain, but also sun. When it does rain it pours down in bucket-loads and fills the rain gauges very rapidly. My suggestion -- allow a couple of days flexibility to do the tour on a sunny day. -- Cheers, Ralph "There is only one boss, the customer. Thank you, Ralph! Your advice is much appreciated. And for the links as well.
