Default Best time of year for sunny Milford/Doubtful Sounds?

Can someone tell me what time of year these areas are more likely to
be sunny? I understand they are usually overcast.

Thanks much!

Can I ask why?

If you want to see what the Sounds are all about, you're better off visiting
while it's pouring rain so that you can see what happens.

Sunniest time is June/July (winter) when it is crisp and clear and cool.

(And, by the way, getting into avalanche season on the Milford road

Or try late February -- my preference.

I understand they are usually overcast.

They do get a lot of _inches_ of rain, but also sun.
When it does rain it pours down in bucket-loads and
fills the rain gauges very rapidly.

My suggestion -- allow a couple of days flexibility to
do the tour on a sunny day.

Thank you, Ralph! Your advice is much appreciated.

And for the links as well.

Best regards,
Allison
