You'll be in Langkawi or Penang in a few months time. Wait and buy one
there.

There are literally thousands of shops in London that stock umbrella's, you
can get fairly cheap ones in Woolworth's or dearer ones in Boot's (a very
popular drug store with branches everywhere). But don't take one to Scotland
with you, the strong winds destroy them fairly quickly. Or why not buy a
raincoat with a hood, an anorak or cagoule or perhaps even one of those very
thin plastic raincoats that fold up very small ?

Sooner or later you'll find yourself in Bergen, Norway. Wait until
then, and you'll be able to buy your umbrealla from a vending machine.

There's an very old umbrella maker's shop called, I think, James
White, at the junction of Gower Street and New Oxford Street. It's a
shop I've always wanted to visit but never have, so maybe you can go
there and post a trip report?

When I was in London I bought a Fulton folding umbrella at
http://www.james-smith.co.uk/. It is aluminum and fiberglass, making it
very lightweight. I bought the three-stage one, which is 24cm closed. There
is also a four-stage one (Microlite, 18.5cm closed), but I felt those will
have more structural problems down the road. Fulton Umbrellas are not sold
in the US.

They probably have their umbrellas at http://www.fultonumbrellas.com/, but
I have ActiveX turned off and the site comes up blank.

James Smith is on New Oxford Street at Bloomsbury Street. Maybe that is
what you are thinking of? See he http://www.james-smith.co.uk/map.htm
