We will be in the Strasbourg area for one to two days. Does any one
have any suggestions for a place to stay at about $100 or less per
night? We traveling by car. We are also trying to locate a local
ferry system to travel down the Rhine for a day. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Capt. Norm

I've stayed a couple of times at the Hotel du Rhin opposite the main
rail station. Nice rooms at the front - ones at the back are a bit
dingy, but the prices are very reasonable.

The hotel is handy for exploring, however - the tram stop is nearby
but it's a little outside the old town.

It seems that the only boat trips you can do in Strasbourg (it stands
on the River Ill and not directly on the Rhine) are those on the canal
system, and a boat trip is a pleasant way of getting to know the
place.

They do trips of the inland port in July and August.

However, the same site lists some local riverboat operators. The one
in Kehl (in Germany, just over the Rhine from Strasbourg's suburbs)
has no website.

To be honest, the river is not particularly interesting scenically in
this part of the world and mostly diverts from the old river bed along
the Grand Canal d'Alsace. Interesting if you enjoy going through
locks!

This company in BreisachGermany) does an occasional boat trip to
Strasbourg leaving at 08:30, arriving Strasbourg at 14:30 and
returning by bus.

There are other offerings too.

timetables in German and French only.

Have stayed at the Campanile in Strasbourg - motel-type chalets but
perfectly ok and centrally located [restaurant just over the street
was good alternative to hotel for evening meal] and this ought to be
priced moderately enough. Plenty of parking too.
