Getting from Luxor to Cairo

What other options exist besides the flight and the train ? We'd like to
stop at some interesting places in between. How is the security
situation (btw we're not American) ?

take a convoy in a bus over the Eastern Desert to Hurghada from Luxor...
chill out on the Red Sea for a bit, then take the road(in a convoy) to
Cairo..

Well, you can stop in between by the train. there might be some buses
but I think it's more safer and practicle to take the train.

the situation in Egypt is generally good. & let alone all the web-guides
*travel warnings* - it's nothing. however, I have to tell you that,
anyhow, fundamental islamic groups ar quite concentrated in this
particular line. But I reckon this is irrelevant. even if you were
Americans.
