Here is a selected excerpt specially
excerpted from GRATUITOUS TRAVELOGUE: "How To Get By On $175 A Day
(approx 140 Euros?) In The Semi-Great U.S.A."

NYC---AC----NYC

"I suppose there is helicopter service, and that would be exciting fun
(as I've not ever been in a copter but did read that nasty Norman
Mailer ugly metaphor, WHY ARE WE IN VIETNAM).

I also bet there is/are a free/complimentary or sort of subsidized bus
trip from various NYC locations, such as the Port Authority Bus
Station in Manhattan, several blocks from Times Square.

Look-up P.A. Bus station on the internet, wherever this is (and maybe
on Map Quest or that comparable Yahoo map thing because Map Quest seems
to have become a hassle but what would ya expect with AOL rigamarole).

For instance, the bus roundtrip ticket, NYC-AC-NYC might be priced for,
say, $25, by the LUCKY- SUCKER TRANSPORTATION CORP.

Moreover, a casino in AC where the bus drops you might rebate, say,
$10--$15 in genuine rolled quarter coins, which you'll surely drop into
their wonderously gimmicky electro-bandit-machine w/in the first 5
minutes.

And as the sun sets in the west, you will brokenly trudge to the bus
pick-up place for the busted-out melanchoilic trip up the Joisey
Turnpike or The Garden State Parkway (?) to Manhattan where they'll
fleece you again, though be sure to try that thickly juicy Sbarro
pizza before returning to where the people don't have colorful quaint
nor irritating accents."

Nope. It's only 100 miles away.

Much easier to drive ot take a train.

For people who have never rented a car in NYC, my advice would be
don't start now. It's very expensive, and the traffic getting out
of NYC and on the Parkway is daunting.

I wouldn't suggest taking the train unless you're a train buff. The
Amtrak route from NY to AC was cancelled some years ago due to a
combination of low traffic and NIMBY opposition in New Jersey, so now
you have to take either Amtrak or a combination of NJ and PA commuter
trains to Philadelphia, then change for the NJ commuter run to AC. If
you like trains, it's kind of a fun trip.

The simplest way to get to AC is to take a bus. NJ Transit route 319
runs from the Port Authority Bus Terminal to Atlantic City every hour
or two with one stop. Greyhound and Academy Bus also have frequent
service.

When you get to NYC stick your head into the first travel agency you
walk past and ask them about an Atlantic City day package, of which
there are bazillions. They typically involve a chartered bus from NYC
directly to one of the casinos, and when you get off the bus, they
give you back your bus fare in quarters on the assumption that you
will immediately squander it in slot machines. Greyhound and Academy
Bus' web sites say they have some sort of casino bonus, too, if you
ask when you buy your ticket.

R's,
John

For NYC to Atlantic City, I'd suggest the train - see www.amtrak.com

The only Atlantic City service used to be on Spirit but I don't think they
fly it any more; US Airways may have a connection through PHL, but since
NYC-PHL is only 96 miles, I think the cost would be ridiculous.
