Default Flights in Thailand

I'm traveling to Thailand next month and planning to hit the requisite
tourist hot spots, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket. I see that Thai Airways
has a Discover Thailand fare that I can buy for $169. Is that a good
deal, or should I buy the tickets once I am in Thailand?

Thanks!

That depends. First, the fare does not include (quite hefty) taxes.
Ask what it will be with tax.

If you intend to fly only Thai Air, it is probably not a bad deal.
However, if you use low-costs (and there are quite a few of them,
generally much cheaper that Thai), the deal may not be so good.

I've just returrned from Thailand. Needed to make the following
itinerary: Bangkok-Khon Kaen-Chiang Mai-Bangkok. Turned out that the
Discover Thailand was not a good deal for me. Bought a return ticket
from BKK to KKC on Thai, and flew AirAsia BKK-Chiang Mai and back on a
separate ticket. Cost me much less than using the Discover fare.

Best, jrk

Thanks!

Don't waste your money on flights or your time on the "requisite"
tourist sites.

Using train and bus will give you more time to find the real deal.

I use the Domestic portion of the Thai Airways website to establish my
budget for air travel within Thailand. Also, if you do Chiang Mai before
Phuket, you can fly directly from Chiang Mai to Phuket non-stop without the
obligatory stop in Bangkok. It's not a frequent flight but it's the one I
would take if I were doing the BKK, CR/CM, Phuket, BKK journey.
