beautiful isle in Malaysia?
We will be visiting malaysia for ~ 7 days at end of July. I am thinking
of spending half the time in KL and the other half on some island. I was thinking Perhentian but after talking my brother who's been there, it seems its remote and we will be too rushed to properly enjoy. (We have a 4 and 1 year old). Can anyone suggest any other island that is just as beautiful but more accessible? Don't care about how developed it is, just want the beauty ! Its not necessary for it to be an island either. Are there any coastal areas that are just as beautiful? thanks waseem |

Are there any coastal areas that are just as beautiful? Well, here is Perhentian island: http://www.molon.de/galleries/Malaysia/Perhentian/ and here Redang island: http://www.molon.de/galleries/Malaysia/Redang/ Langkawi island: http://www.molon.de/galleries/Malaysia/Langkawi/ Pangkor island: http://www.molon.de/galleries/Malaysia/Pangkor/ Tioman island: http://www.molon.de/galleries/Malaysia/Tioman/ the beach of Kampung Cerating: http://www.molon.de/galleries/Malaysia/Cerating/ Tioman, Langkawi and Pangkor have airports with direct flights to KL. For Kampung Cerating you fly to Kuantan then fetch the taxi (50 km). To get to Perhentian you fly KL - Kota Bharu, then fetch a taxi to Kuala Besut (45 min.), and then the boat to the island (30 minutes). If you leave with the 10am flight from KL you will be in Perhentian around 3pm. To get to Redang you fly KL - Kuala Terengganu, then fetch the taxi to Marang (around 30 Km), then the boat to Redang (about 30-40 min). Perhentian is the nicest island, closely followed by Redang (which is more developed). Tioman and Langkawi are ok, but not too great; with Langkawi the problem is the seawater which is not crystal clear, with Tioman the problem are the beaches which are way less spectacular than those of Perhentian. If you only have four days, it's indeed a pity to lose half a day each way to go and return from Perhentian (although I would do it, because nothing compares to it). Perhaps your best option is then to go to Langkawi and stay on the Tanjung Rhu beach in the north, which is quite decent (actually the best beach on the island). The water is also quite shallow and the bay is protected, so suitable for a 4 1/2 years old. The only downside is that accomodation there is quite expensive (around RM 400+ for a double). -- Alfred Molon http://www.molon.de/Galleries.htm - Photos from Myanmar, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Nepal, Egypt, Austria, Budapest and Portugal |

Personally I'd go for the Perhentians. Absolutely stunning. JAN |

Hi, then the best choice is Pulau Tioman (pictures on Alfred Molons Website or at www.pulau-tioman.de ). You can reach it directly from Kuala Lumpur with Berjaya Air (Lost the link of the website, use google to find it) in ~1 hr You can book via E-Mail and pay 90 min prior to departure at the Subang Airport in KL. Oneway ticket costs about 56US$ For nice beaches forget the islands on the westcoast. Regards, Alex |

Both are nice:
Pulau Aur Pulau Tioman (Pulau is Island in the Malay Language) Go a phrase search in Google. Lots of relevant links! I have been to the following islands :
Langkawi Tioman Perhentian Pulau Besar Pulau Sibu Pulau Rawa Rawa is the best, it is like a dream, much better then Perhentian. It is also not easy to get to, you need to take coach then ferry. However any island which is easily accessible with an airport like Tioman and Langkawi will not be that nice. If you really want beauty you will need to plan more time. What about more time in the islands and less time in KL ? I always think that one day is more than enought for the city. "Waseem S." wrote in message news:1083619256.590348@sj-nntpcache-5...
