Nantucket, Massachusetts rentals for summer 06

Hi everybody,

I've been trying to book a trip to Nantucket, Massachusetts for the
summer of 2006, but many of the rentals I found online are already
booked. I'm looking for at least a week, maybe two, on Nantucket or
Martha's Vineyard with my wife (and our dog).

Does anybody have any recommendations - Nantucket vs. Martha's
Vineyard? I'm from upstate New York, so I don't really know much
about the area.

Do you recommend using a travel agent, or booking online? I'd rather
stay in a little beach-front cottage than a large hotel (so we can
bring our dog). Am I just asking too much?

I have had good luck finding condo accommodations from VRBO, where you
can call (or e-mail) and negotiate directly with the owner of the
property, not an agency.
