We would like to start getting some good ideas for a trip to the Banff and
Jasper National Parks for next summer. We are day hikers and like to stay
in out of the way areas. We are wondering about some nice lodges that
provide rooms and food service in areas that you must hike to (not more than
7-10 miles one way). Any suggestions are appreciated. thanks Carol

Hello Carol,

here is a nice report on Clearwater which is inside the well gray provincial
park. Thats my favourite park in BC.

Carol,

I know it is a longer hike (at 17 miles in) that what you are looking
for, but
take a good look at Mt. Assiniboine Lodge in the M.A. Provinical Park
next to
Banff. We day hiked into the M.A. PP last summer from Sunshine Meadows
and
it was beautiful. I'd like to go back someday and camp one of the
camps near the
lodge.

You might also look into Lake O'Hara. You don't hike to it, you take a
bus. Can't drive to
it. But it is supposed to be excellent for basing for day hikes. It
is in Yoho, and not far
from Lake Louise in Banff.

I will be near Shadow Lake Lodege at the end of JUly. I will not be
staying there but I will relay as much info as I can.

Although it is not hiking in, you might want to consider some of the
hostels in the park that have a lot of day-hiking opportunities.
