We are going on an Alaska Cruisetour in September. Does anyone have an
opinion on booking excursions through the cruise line (Royal Caribbean) vs.
making those arra

First off make sure your "tour" portion has the Tundra Wilderness tour at
Denali Park and NOT the Natural History. As for tours in ports- consider a
whale watch/glacier helicopter landing combo booked with Coastal makes much
better use of time than booked separately. Look over your shore excursion list
and further narrow down your interests for the other port- way too many
excellent tours to recommend otherwise.

Out of Juneau is superior for McKinley vieiwng in my opinion. McKinley is
better for flights- summit- over the top in my experience.

Wrote- the above wrong- out of Juneau is superior for glacier helicopter
landings.

Not only is the price identical, but you can board the train
right next to the ship instead of having to walk into town
and board at the train station. The railroad charters the
trains to the cruise line.
Also, in May they supplied a bottle of water on the train so
when you get on, the seats with water bottles are not
necessarily in use.
Enjoy, and take lots of pictures.

we've done whale watching with captain larry in juneau (orca enterprises)
and we're doing it again Aug.

The whtiepass railway should be booked thru the cruiseline, price is
virtually identical.

vs.
making those arrangements ourselves? We would like to go on a whale
watching tour and a helicopter tour. Any input on which tours you

enjoyed
and who you booked them with will be much appreciated.

REgarding the bottled water - even if you don't plan on drinking it take a
bottle - they're shaped like train cars and are a great collector's
item. If you have the option of the train or train/bus combination I
recommend the train/bus. You get a chance to see much more scenery and
it's beautiful!
