What is society coming to when you have to thank people for not being
abusive, I wonder!

Which news server do you both use? Some can be very slow, I use the "German
server" (news. individual.net), this is always reliable and very very fast.

2 different websites say different things about a UK national getting a
holiday visa for Bali-one says visa on arrival the other says you must get
it in advance.
Anybody know?

I never got a visa but check the embassy.

I use optusnet - it's usually pretty good.

Thanks for that

.....

Did it again last night in Jakarta. Paid in pounds, £14.
One window to collect fee, including exchange if not US$, but they do not
accept all currencies, e.g. refused Thai baht for guy for guy in front of
me. Next window to issue visa.
They do not seem to ask for return/onward tickets any more in Jakarta.

Do you think it would be quicker to use $US then?

Why change your GBPs into $US ???
Ash, its only as quick as the queue is long!!
Just make sure you are first to the visa queue! When we came through at
Bali, we were out of the airport within around 15-20 mins of getting off the
plane. That included waiting for bags, getting money from ATM (there are
several in the baggage hall - no need to get Rupiah before arrival) and
paying for the visa by credit card. The staff at the airport are very
friendly and helpful.

Ash, are you going straight to Bali or landing in Jakarta first?

As for how long it takes, Jan is right. It all depends on how long the
queue is. Once landed at Jakarta, I managed to get off the plane fairly
quickly and there wasn't much line. Unfortunately, I had to use the
facilities before I could stand in line. Fortunately, by the time I came
back out, the line had dwindled down again to just a few people. Didn't
take long at all.

Doesn't sound too bad at all. I'll probably stick to £uk or credit card.
