The Sofitel is classy, extensive grounds, beautiful pool, -

historic -
right on the beach AND an easy walk to the Night Market and

restaurants by
the hundred!!

Thanks Mate,
Is the beach and sea nice around the Sofitel?
I take it at the upper price range you rate the Sofitel higher than
the Hilton or the Marriott?
I like the idea of the Marriott being a little further out but not

if
the pool area/gardens are crowded as has been suggested.

I believe the sea is cleaner the further out you go.

sorry to say, nonsense

Also less
rocks - easy to cut your feet closer to town.

rocks are especially in front of the Hilton and Central Village, hardly no
rocks in front of the Sofitel, but why would you go into the sea when there
are such beautiful pools?

None of the hotels can be said to be crowded,

the garden of the Marriott is too small, that's why they have a lot chairs
on the beach in front of the hotel

although the Sofitel does indeed cover vastly
more ground than the Mariott. If you want the historical "touch" to
your vacation, choose the Sofitel, if comfort (and isolation) is more
important to you, stay at the Marriott.

Sofitel is at least as comfortable as the Marriott, if you go for isolation
you'd better choose the Evason

I have a feeling you would be
reasonably content whichever you choose. :-)

long time ago we stayed one time in the Royal Garden Resort (Marriott now)
and we where content, since then we stayed several times in the Sofitel and
as you might expect, we where satisfied too:-)

What is the Evason like?
Are there other restaurants in walking distance around it or are the
nearest restaurants 30 minutes away in Hua Hin?

Mike,

it is a 45 min drive from Hua Hin - nice place, but in the middle of
nowhere. Nice if you have a car, otherwise forget it.

"The Evason is not really in Hua Hin but is 25 minutes drive south of the
town. This means it is isolated. The hotel is well thought out though with
plenty to offer so most guests rarely venture out. All the rooms are
spacious, simple and airy with the clear Evason design - very practical
upmarket Ikea with some clever touches. The basic rooms, the Evason rooms
are in blocks and a few minutes walk fro the beach. They offer a twin or
double configuration and have small balconies and have the added benefit of
a day bed which is fine for a child. The glass walled bathrooms are an
interesting touch. The superior studio rooms are the same as the Evason
rooms except have a much larger balcony with day bed - great for lounging
with a book. Near the beach are the deluxe, romantic and pool villas
connected by a suspended walkway. The very popular villas have a small pool,
reading deck and loungers - again they are popular with families as they
have a king bed and day bed configuration. The bath is outside and
surrounded by a fish pond with real fish...again a nice touch. Deluxe and
romantic rooms are much the same as the Evason rooms except they have the
bath in the room leaving no room for the day bed so no children here - as it
should be for honeymooners and lovers! Facilities are excellent from the
very slick spa to the kids club and activities. The kids have a special pool
well shaded with great gardens and next to the club for all round
entertainment and near the clinic for those inevitable grazed knees but far
away from the main pool area so a little impractical for parents to oversee
their offspring. The main pool is wonderful and makes up for a poor beach
but which is no worse than others in Hua Hin. There are three restaurants
with good selection of food although each is only open for selected meals
offering little scope for variety if staying for long periods. The gym,
internet room cum library are well done. Staff are very attentive and the
direct line from guests to the GM and his senior staff is a nice touch.
Overall a good property, well priced and well run, if a little remote"

if you want to stay in or close to Hua Hin it isn't an option

back to the OP

We've stayed at the Sofitel Cottages, the Sofitel 'Old Railroad Hotel', the
Hyatt Resort, and a smaller hotel in town.

the Railroad Hotel is very grand, quite photographic, rather interesting,
and neat. it is exrtemely historic and was used in the 'Killing Fields'
movie as a Phom Phen hotel. also, it is within walking distance from
downtown. this means you can walk to the seafood restaurnts on the piers,
nightlife, etc. we loved staying there.

if this is your first time and you want a first class hotel, do that one.
