Reckon the economy and the planet in general really needs people living to be 110? But cigarettes don't merely reduce your life expectancy. They reduce the number of years you can expect to live in good health. And being fat and drinking doesn't? No doubt you'll argue 'but me drinking only hurts me, not anyone else'. Do I really need to be getting stats on the causes of crime, and showing where alcohol comes in the list? Have you ever tried sitting on a long haul flight next to a fat *******? Why should you only get half a seat because they have a pie addiction? I'm not against the smoking ban, but those that want to look down their noses at smokers can **** right off unless they don't drink and are an acceptable weight.. I'm sorry if you interpreted my post as me looking down my nose at It's what smokers have to deal with everywhere they go. I know it is and it shouldn't be. The best person to judge whether the pleasure you derive from smoking is worth the health risk is yourself. The only thing I'm questioning is the assumption you appear to be making that should you die prematurely the years you are missing out on will be the unhealthy ones. Sorry for being so morbid but If cancer kills you at 50 instead of cancer killing you at 90 you haven't lost unhealthy years. As for your grandmother you have my sympathies. I don't know what the legal status is regarding inciting crimes so I won't mention the e word. Cancer can kill anyone at 50, not just the smokers. Yes you increase your chances if you smoke, but then sticking to the source of the original post so do all these things. http://www.thedailydust.co.uk/2009/0...ngs-the-daily-... Are you going to be happy if the government bans this NG, wine, oral sex, your mobile, chocolate etc etc because you might miss out on a few years if you aren't? We all perform risk-assessments a number of times each day. I don't like having mine performed for me, especially when the reasons for doing so apply to a very large number of things that have not been selected by the government to be 'bad', and they've not spent millions of pounds on social-engineering peoples opinions about them, so that the pious ****ers can look down their noses at the rest of us. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/ar...ectid=10655652 |

Smoking, in a relative sense, is a massive health risk. You either choose to inflict that health risk on yourself or not, but trying to justify it by citing other unhealthy activities isn't an argument, it's an excuse. Are you going to be happy if the government bans this NG, wine, oral sex, your mobile, chocolate etc etc because you might miss out on a few years if you aren't? Government hasn't banned smoking. We all perform risk-assessments a number of times each day. I don't like having mine performed for me It's not, you're free to smoke. |
