travel without a credit card
how hard is it to travel without a credit card? I'd like to do an extensive
trip somewhere, but have no credit cards ... and don't qualify for more, since I came close to bankruptcy a few years ago. any advice you can give would be most welcome. -------------------- In the end we are judged by our deeds, not our wishes. but how does one deal with hostel reservations and the like? did you
reserve in advance with a cheque or money order, or did you take your chances and waited until you got to your destination? "st" wrote in message ... Very rarely booked ahead. If we booked ahead, it was only on the day of arrival in the morning. The only hostels I stayed at worth booking ahead for: - The Flying Pig, Amsterdam - Hostel 99, Cesky Krumlov - Kabul, Barcelona - Balmer's Herberge, Interlaken - Elf, Prague - Backpack Guesthouse, Budapest - Rodos Youth Hostel, Rhodes - 6 Small Rooms, Naples Most places take bookings in advance without a credit card. In the case of the Flying Pig in Amsterdam (which you DEFINITELY want to stay at), you can just rock up early in the morning - 8:30am I think they start selling their beds off to non-arrivals and the like. We just stayed in another **** hostel for the first night then got up early the next morning and went to the Pig. No problems at all... |

travel without a credit card
Taking a moment's reflection, Rita mused:
| | logo. It can be used either as a strict debit card, in which case I | have to put in a pin number, or as a credit card, in which case I | sign a slip. In either case, the money is immediately deducted | from my checking account. Interestingly, with mine, I have found that if I use it as a credit card the deduction usually comes 3 days after the purchase ... when I use it as a debit card, the deduction is same day. |

Hostel reservations?? Unless you are arriving in the middle of a major festival this is not worth the bother. Just try to arrive in the morning if at all possible - in the evening it is much harder to find an affordable and convenient place to stay except in accommodation-glut cities like London. You'll always find something but you might spend more than you hoped the first night. miguel -- See the world from your web browser: http://travel.u.nu/ |
