Default Paris New Year's Eve and pre-Christmas

I will have a few days before Christmas in Paris and also New Year's Eve
and around. Are there firework displays or similar on New Year's Eve in
Paris? Where to see them? Anything particular sights to see in Paris at
this time? I have visited Paris before a few times over the years, but
not at this time. I have booked to stay at the Lenox Montparnasse hotel
which has some quite good reviews on tripadvisor.

To "Magda". Thanks for telling me where I can see NYE fireworks in Paris
(from Champs Elysees) . I have made a note.

I've visited Paris several times over the last 50 years (though not in
the last 5) and have seen most of the traditional tourist sites (a list
far too long to type) but not at this time of year - so things special
to this time of year is what I was asking about. New things in the last
5 years would also be good. I have the Green Michelin and will be
checking that for things I've missed in previous visits.

Elsewhere I have seen mention of Christmas lights in certain streets
(such as the Champs Elysees) and window displays in shops such as
Galerie Lafayette and Au Bon Marche. I'll be checking that out.

What you need is a resident guide. I may be available.

Hurry up! I saw the windows at Galéries Lafayette some days ago, it was abso****inglutely
great! Kids would cry and scream the house down when taken away from them, and I almost
arrived late at my meeting because I couldn't take my eyes off them. Moroccan theme this
year, with dancing pots and pans and other kitchen utensils...

And to complement Andrew's Guide Michelin a peek at the Office de
Tourisme de Paris's site to get informed of seasonal events. And
voilà! http://en.parisinfo.com/rub8282.html

There is no big fireworks in Paris for Xmas and New Eve. Only the crowd
drinking bottles and shooting mini-fireworks on the Champs Elysees.

Some streets have Xmas decorations like the Champs Elysees or some
departement stores like Galeries La Fayette - Printemps at Opera. See :

http://en.parisinfo.com/rub8282.html
http://www.paris.fr/portail/Economie...portlet_id=824

For exhibitions and newly opened or re-opened museums make a search
with "meurgues christmas exhibitions" in rec.travel europe (or buy the
very cheap "Officiel des spectacles" or "Pariscope" booklets).

like :
- musée du Petit Palais,
- musée du Quai Branly,
- for the "very"... curious see the Coronelli globes at the National
Library (Tolbiac site) the largest ancient ones (17th c. ) with more
than 4 m of diameter, then take the new very nice footbridge over the
Seine to the Cinemathèque in Bercy park (museum + exhib.).

http://www.cinematheque.fr (exhib. : german expressionist cinema)
etc...

see the websites given in my message.

Corrections :
- contrarily to what I said, the musée de la Legion d'Honneur doesn't
allow anymore the access to the 18th c. hotel de Salm and its XIXth c.
decors... (except once a year for the "journées du patrimoine :
"heritage days" in September).
- due to a problem with the curators of the Hermitage museum of St
Petersburg all loans to foreign museums are stopped (the impressive
cycle of the History of Psyche presented at the Maurice Denis
exhibition of museé d'Orsay escaped...), so their 14 items are
unfortunately not presented at the exhibition "Sassanide Persia" of the
musée Cernusci. :+(

Now that is great. I'd had a quick glance at the Paris office's website
but missed that. I've just spent 1/2 hour looking at that and noted the
page to look at again while in Paris. So much info! Thanks so much!
