Nor do I! (The version here in the U.S. has become just as

Come on, ladies! You have a sense of humour (or is that two senses of
humour, one each). That's all you need to watch CNN.

Well, to that extent, you're probably right! At least it
beats all the mindless sitcoms and "reality TV" shows that
monopolize most of our networks. Aside from reruns of the
various incarnations of "Law and Order" and "CSI", what else
is there to watch? "West Wing" is apparently a casualty of
the real-life death of the actor who portrayed "Leo McGary",
and "Commander in Chief" seems to have disappeared without a
ripple.

What would they need to watch Fox News?

Ummmm..... several million dollars might be an incentive.
(Otherwise, NO WAY!!!!)

What would they need to watch Fox News?

A straight jacket and a padded cell.

Not really! (I think beating my head against the padded
wall might be more amusing.)

what counts as "suspicious", just Arabs?

No, just people from poor countries where this activity is common.

Are you referring to her current home, the UK, or OZ?

It being rather quite at the airport at 2am I did some delving into TIM this
morning to see what it says, and I could make a guess at how this mixed up
happened.

TIM (Travel Information Manual) says that people traveling to Italy require a
passport except, and then goes into many exemptions to that requirement. One
of which is "a child, or any nationality, resident in an EU country". However
on reading the small print you realise that exemption only refers to children
traveling in a school party. The way it was laid out someone not taking the
time to read it fully could well have given the wrong answer.

Not excusing Ryanair, just a bit more of an understanding as to how the
mistake might have been made.

It's the same joke over and over, though.

How do you know?

When I first came to Italy and didn't understand Italian terribly
well, I used to watch it occasionally to try to keep up with world
news and news in the US. I had never watched it in the US, because I
didn't have cable television there. (I really watch very little TV at
all.)

I soon got thoroughly irritated with it. I think the last time I
watched in was in the days just after the World Trade Center attack.
Their coverage of that was abyssmal.

I watch the Italian nightly news on RAI1. Other than that I prefer
newspapers for my news. I read a local paper every day, either Il
Resto del Carlino or Corriere Adriatico, Corriere della Sera (several
times a week), L'Espresso (weekly) and I subscribe to the
International Herald Tribune. The IHT is beginning to irritate me
also, as it's giving more and more space to business news, something
in which I have less than zero interest.

Except in West Yorkshire, where "while" means "until". In the 1960s, British
Railways sign boards saying "Do not Cross While The Red Lights Are Flashing"
vastly increased the death rate. While had to be amended to When.

And farther north (Scotland) there's 'whiles'.

My father said that. He was born in Ireland, but spent a good part of
his youth in Glasgow.

No, because this child wasn't resident in the EU.
