Princess Allows Big Screen Marriage Proposals

Princess Cruises starting in June will allow passengers to orchestrate a
marriage proposal with a personal video on the jumbo movie screens on the
sun decks of the new Crown Princess. The "Engagement Under the Stars"
package will allow a man or woman to pop the question with a personal video
proposal shown on the 300-square-foot movie screen. Assuming the response is
affirmative, the newly engaged couple will enjoy a special romantic dinner,
amenities, and the creation of keepsake items. The "Engagement Under the
Stars" proposals will take place just prior to one of the evening's outdoor
feature films at a time prearranged with the one doing the proposing, who
will bring his or her unsuspecting companion to the scene under the guise of
seeing the movie. Priced at $695, the package includes a secret session for
the proposer with the ship's videographer to create a personalized on-screen
proposal; two glasses of champagne and a red rose presented to the couple
immediately following the proposal; a bottle of champagne and
chocolate-covered strawberries in the couple's stateroom the evening of the
proposal; a portrait session and an 8-by-10 engagement photo; four candid
8-by-6 photos of the surprise proposal; an in-room breakfast; one dinner for
two at one of the alternative dining venues; a couple's massage; a
complimentary pottery class at which the couple will design a commemorative
"engagement plate" souvenir; 10 percent discount off of fine jewelry in the
shipboard boutiques; and a $100 credit towards a wedding-at-sea package on a
future voyage. "All the gentleman has to bring is the ring and the
question," said Jan Swartz, Princess' senior vice president of customer
service and sales. After making its debut on the Crown Princess, the
engagement package will be rolled out to all Princess ships that have the
jumbo movie screens, including Caribbean Princess, Grand Princess, and Sea
Princess. Scheduled to launch in June, the 113,000-ton Crown Princess will
introduce Princess' first-ever roundtrip Caribbean sailings from New York.
The inaugural season will feature nine-day roundtrips to both the Eastern
and Western Caribbean, and will mark the return of Princess' return to
