Boeing Lands Another 777 Order

TAIPEI, TAIWAN - EVA Airways, Taiwan's second-biggest carrier, said Tuesday
it will buy eight long-haul Boeing 777 passenger jets, a deal that would be
worth $1.49 billion at list prices.

EVA will sign a formal contract with the Chicago-based aircraft maker
Thursday, said Eric Lin, an EVA corporate communications official.

The decision comes as demand for travel picks up amid a recovery in the
global economy, officials said.

EVA will take delivery of the first two 777s next year, and the new order is
in addition to seven 777s the company ordered in 2000, Lin said.

The 15 twin-engine 777s will replace six 747 passenger planes and nine
passenger-cargo 747s that EVA is due to retire in a few years, officials
said.
