Wilkes-Barre PA
Wilkes-Barre, PA. How do I pronounce it? Wilkes "Barry" or Wilkes
"Bar"? I've heard both. I'm going there on course in a couple of weeks and would like to at least pronounce my host's city's name correctly. Thanks. Steve |

My father lives in central PA, in Williamsport, and that is the way that
he pronounces it, too. Julie B Vaughan wrote: On 10 Sep 2004 03:47:50 -0700, (Steve S) wrote: Wilkes-Barre, PA. How do I pronounce it? Wilkes "Barry" or Wilkes "Bar"? I've heard both. We pronounced it something Like Wilkes Barreh, where the "barr" is pronounced as in the name Barry. You might say that Barre rhymes with Farrah, as in Fawcett. -------- Barbara Vaughan My email address is my first initial followed by my last name at libero dot it. -- Julie ********** Check out my Travel Pages (non-commercial) at http://www.dragonsholm.org/travel.htm |
