Small Beach Town in Mexico
Any suggestions for a small beach town in Mexico with good snorkelling
and local accommodations and warm water in March? Something like Puerto Angel (except we've been there). I was in Bucerias (across the bay from Puerto Vallarta a long time ago; it's probably a lot more developed and touristy now). Gracias. |

I think snorkelling in the Caribbean is better. T. |

We would be starting from the West Coast, but if you have a good
suggestion for the Caribbean side, I would be happy to hear it. |

I prefer to avoid the big resort towns (Cancún, Huatulco, etc.). My
Spanish isn't too bad and I'd rather relax in a village or small town with nice local food and a warm beach. |

Bucerias is built up a bit over the last 10 years, but what has not?
If you head to a coast for fun, more than likely you will not be alone. I love the town and the vistas and eateries. Lots to do and not far by cheap bus down into town. I also like La Cruz and Sayulita. |

I'd recommend Tulum. The snorkeling is the better than the Pacific
Coast, and there's probably some reasonable fares to Cancun.... Don |

My husband and I have been sailing the West Coast of Mexico the past
three winters and find Tenacatita to be one of our favorites. It´s a small village about an hour north of Manzanillo that offers good snorkeling and a fine swiming beach. There are several hotels as well as a hostel for cheap in Tenacatita. You can google it to find out more and check out our web site for pics. In fact, we are sailing over there today from Barra de Navidad, another of our favorite towns. Barb www.sailinglinks.com |

LAC wrote: Gracias a todos for the feedback and suggestions. After reading an entry in Lonely Planet, I decided on Rincón de Guayabitos - relatively cheap air fare (Bay Area to Puerto Vallarta) , not too long a bus ride, and lots of local but comfortable accommodations. I'm leaning toward not making hotel reservations, partly because I would like some spontaneity, partly because it's probably better to see the place, and partly bacuse there are other towns nearby if we want a change. |
