No he wasn't. He was tarred by the leftist media of the time, and
Democrats in government and academia. Most Americans were glad that
he was working to get the enemy agents out of sensitive government
jobs.

Sensitive government jobs like a screen writers in Hollywood?

Uh-huh.

Pot, kettle, black... Take off your blinders and you will notice that
McCarthy was condemned by both the right and left as a zealot. Yes there
were some communists in the government and there still are. Nothing in our
Constitution that says there shouldn't be. In fact everything there states
that free choice is a good thing as it is all part of the checks and
balances. As far as communism being evil, you couldn;t be more wrong. It is
a perfect society, which is also the reason it does not work, That system is
perfect, unfortunately the people are not. The exact same thing could be
said for democracy, it is a perfect society but alas, again it does not work
in it's true form. As it currently stands the best thing you can hope for is
a mixture of both which is what we currently have. Unfortunately it also
needs consistent tweaking to change with technology and mores.

Maybe you should learn the facts about McCarthy, instead of mindlessly
adopting the distortions of the leftist media.

Learn for yourself. There were communists in US government. They
were working to help an enemy bent on destroying us. McCarthy was
very popular among the populace and effective at exposing those who
should not be trusted with state secrets. Those on the left did their
best to make him the issue and destroy him, so that you would hold the
views you have today.

Communism is evil.

Jim: I have disagreed with some of your posts in the past and have let you
know so.

I want to take this occasion to comment on how impressed I was by yourmost
reasonable and intelligent post on this subject.

JIM DEFEDE/COMMENTARY
Candidates lack original ideas on Cuba policy

Poor Condoleezza.

In the midst of all of the real problems in the world -- Iraq, North Korea,
the break-up of Ben and Jennifer -- the national security advisor had to
take time out of her schedule recently to write Florida GOP legislators to
assure them that when it comes to Cuba, President Bush is committed to being
as ill-informed as any of the Democratic candidates running for president.

Which won't be easy.
