So long as it's understood the Tube doesn't exactly go to Kings
Cross Thameslink.

And it's a bloody nuisance to get to from the tube, especially as you
probably have luggage and may be in a rush when you are trying to get there!

ISTM the (other) main problem with this alternative routing is that
there's a chance of being stuck in Tottenham if anything goes wrong with
the Tube. At least the other way goes only via bigger stations where there
should be plenty of bus and taxi alternatives.

The German rail site suggests train from Stansted to Liverpool
Street Station, then local transit to London Bridge station for a
train to Gatwick, but this looks pretty awkward. Stansted train
to Liverpool Street tehn Underground to either Blackfriars or
Victoria station makes more sense.

Easier would be underground to Farringdon (would involve going over a
set of stairs at Liverpool Street) and then changing to Thameslink there
9down one very short flight)

there's a 1/4 mile or more walk between KC underground and Thameslink
stations. On the street too.
