Don't you? Using a newsreader? Why? because I can. It's not the news/mail tool that does the checking. I use AVG and ZA on mail and the web, plus regular cleans with ccleaner and adaware. But I don't subscribe to any binary newsgroups so I never download any attachments via Agent from the German news-server I use. How would I be risking a virus on usenet? You wouldn't. You would need to take a series of irrational steps to get a virus from usenet, and your news server doesn't even support attachment. There are infinitely more ways you are likely to get a virus. There is a way to get a virus on Usenet: download a binary that is executable and execute it. Of course, you'd have to be pretty dumb to do it. By default, my newsreader flags all binary .exe files as dangerous-do-not-open. I'm sure plenty of porn-hunting dorks are happy to run bR1tNeyFUX4U.exe. They get what they deserve. - TR |

But surely if everyone had a gun, no one would get shot? fewer INNOCENTS would get shot. and there'd be lower overall incidence of violent crime (at least with innocent victims, cocaine dealers shooting each other in turf wars is another matter). the violent crime rate in the UK is actually HIGHER than in the US. |
