ConUS beaches in February
On 1/11/2008 9:52 PM Gary did the "neutron dance", then made these
writings: Can anyone recommend and ocean/gulf beach area in the lower 48 where we could go in February and enjoy sand and waves? Key West comes to mind but how are the Gulf Coast or So. Cal. beaches at this time of year? TIA GV FYI: Key West does not have waves. The coral reef is a natural break water. Unless pumped in at some hotels, the beach sand in Key West is closer to the consistency of concrete. Have you considered Puerto Morelos or Playa del Carmen in Mexico? Along with the expensive All Inclusive Resort Hotels there are several inexpensive, clean hotels at these destinations. With approximately 10 Pesos to the US Dollar, Mexico can still offer an economic winter getaway. -- ________ To email me, Edit "blog" from my email address. Brian M. The exchange rate was close to 10:1 for a while and the Mexicans got used to the ease of conversion and kept it. If you want to save the roughly 9% you may get overcharged at 10:1, get money from an ATM; I've found the Banamex machines work fine and don't charge an overt fee; my credit union doesn't charge a fee either, so the rate is pretty damn good. -- ************* DAVE HATUNEN ) ************* * Tucson Arizona, out where the cacti grow * * My typos & mispellings are intentional copyright traps * |

ConUS beaches in February
Again, thanks for the replies. I'm only considering conus destinations
because I have tickets on NWA that I must use by the middle of February and I can only use them in conus. GV "BrianK" wrote in message ... ConUS beaches in February
we drove down from massachusetts a few years ago.
with every few hundred miles south we drove it felt warmer... we stopped in jacksonville, it was 75 degrees, went to the beach, nice long walk.... when you are leaving 20 and 30 degree weather, 75 is a heatwave.... by the time we got to big cypress, off rte 75 west of miami, temps hit 80 and it felt like a midwest heatwave... how many of us roll our windows down on a 55 degree sunny spring day in new england, feels great doesnt it... I think you will be fine for sitting on the beach.... and if the waters to cold maybe you could hop on a passing jon boat for a ride to shore... |

Sorry! Even after being retired over twenty years the old "military speak"
still comes naturally! Conus = continental U.S.(A) = the lower 48 states GV .... What do you mean by conus? Mick. Last great stay. http://www.rent-my-escape.com/1389 |

Of course you're correct. My guess is that the military term has been in
use in that way since before Alaska was a state. Gary "Frank F. Matthews" wrote in message ... Which tends to ignore the geography of North America. Contiguous I'll buy but not continental. Then again that would imply that the territories were not part of the US. I wouldn't put it past the military to have such an attitude but it would have been strange. I think that you're all putting far more effort into picking apart the term "ConUS" than was put into creating it. Gary wrote: Of course you're correct. Hey folks, I'm sorry that I started this mess! I think that J. Clarke is
right! I was a squid many, many years ago working in supply, disbursing and travel! IIRC, Conus and Outus were terms we used to determine things like travel time, mileage rates, tour lengths, etc. There were different rates to apply depending on location--one rate for the lower 48 states (Conus) and another for "overseas"{Outus (or "Outconus" if you had room on the form that you were filling out)}! -- Gary Visit Lucy & Gary and do the jigsaw puzzle at www.under-1-roof.com/PuzzlePage.html Clarke" wrote in message ...
